This picture was taken on Anguilla just after Hurricane Irma struck in 2017. What was once a carribean paradise was destroyed overnight. The beaches were littered with detritus from the ocean and the resorts flattened, as demonstrated by the state of the pier. The hurricane was so powerful it lifted small aircraft at the airport and threw them hundreds of meters. The people are wonderful and despite everything were remarkably upbeat. The island is still recovering but well worth visiting if you get the chance.
