Print info

Print medium;
Most photographs are printed as a Gicee on Hanhnemuhle German Etching paper. German Etching is a heavy weight 'art' paper with a mottled texture producing strong colours and deep blacks that feel rich and high in contrast. Combined with the Giclee print process this results in a handmade crafted feel.

Some pictures are printed as a C-type on Kodak Metallic. Unlike Giclee printing, which is ink on paper, C-type is a photographic print on light sensitive silver halide paper. The reason for choosing this for some prints is to emphasise the metallic or iridescant qualities in a picture, giving it an almost 3D look.

Archival life is approximately 80 years for Giclee and 40 years for C-type.

Print Sizes;

The print sizes given on the product page next to the pictures include a half inch border all around. The actual picture sizes are;

  • For 4:3 ratio pictures; 16" x 12" and 12" x 9"
  • For 3:2 ratio pictures; 16" x 10.7" or 12" x 8"
  • For 16:9 ratio pictures; 16" x 9"

Framing;

The half inch border is there to help with mounting a print within a frame. When choosing a frame, it may be that the frame mount that comes with it is not the right size for the print. In these circumstances I order a seperate frame mount (there are plenty of online companies that do this and it's not expensive) to fit the frame and accommodate the picture. By doing this you can also choose a colour for the mount (helpful hint; cream and off white colours generally looks nicer than plain white if you want a light coloured mount).

I am hoping to offer the options for custom frame mounts soon.

Options;

What you get when you order is just the Giclee or C-type print. I have not included the options for custom framing or substrate mounting on materials such as MDF, foam or aluminium, as there are many varations and some are quite expensive. However, if you want any of these options they can easily be done, just send an email and I can discuss what is available and the costs involved.

Shipping;

The cost for shipping per print order is a flat rate of £6 globally. All orders are shipped using Royal Mail or Deutsche Post signed for services.
